Florida Gateway College President Dr. Lawrence Barrett has been selected for induction into the SUNY Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame. He attended SUNY Ulster, then called Ulster County Community College, from 1982 to 1984, graduating with an AS degree in Communication and Media Arts.

Barrett was a first-generation college student, and he credits his experience at SUNY Ulster with inspiring his lifelong career in higher education.

“I am honored by this achievement. It is truly the most significant honor I have ever received,” Barrett said. “SUNY Ulster gave me my start, and many of its faculty and staff helped me so much there and throughout my career. Florida Gateway College reminds me so much of SUNY Ulster, in being a small rural college but most importantly as a college where the faculty and staff put students at the center of everything.

“The motto of SUNY is ‘To learn, to search, to serve.’ I remember those words that were told to me at my college orientation at Ulster and try to live by them daily.”

As a Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Barrett’s photo and biography will be permanently displayed on the college’s Hall of Fame wall and in a forthcoming electronic kiosk on the campus of SUNY Ulster.

The honor will be bestowed at an Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on December 9 at SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, NY.
